Can’t wait to return! Highly recommended!
Cons:
Terrific, and I mean totally on-point even for the critical, mini "guide book" binder in each cottage that will point you to the best of the Cape. (Seriously. I used to go to the Cape annually with family and this Guide could be published.)
Location, location, location in terms of being in a sweet, quiet, safe mini Pine forest
We booked a group of cottages this summer and it was a fabulous stay. My fiancé and I took cottage #1. Just the right size for us. Sister and Mom took cottage #8; a little tight for two adults, but totally manageable, and a married couple with a 1 yo took the largest cottage #9, which was a perfect space for them.
Jennifer, the caretaker, took time to answer all questions and work with our group to make sure the fit was suitable for a young child. The cabins were spotless and smelled fresh, even with rustic charm. AC’s and fans worked perfectly and offered a cool environment to unwind after hours at the beach. The dwellings have a fascinating history which I won’t give away here, one I read up on in our cabin guide. Big plus on the bbq grills at each cottage, picnic tables and a special outdoor shower at our cottage #1. Kitchens are fully equipped and bathrooms were spotless and in good order.
Hospitality - Jen (the caretaker) is delightful and I could've sat and chatted with her all day
Quaint, quiet cottages. Cottage #2 is cozy and clean. Jennifer is very helpful. Highly recommend staying here!
This is by far my favorite place to stay in the Cape. The location is great. The cottages are cozy and have just what you need to be comfortable. And Jennifer is amazing.
Location, location, location on the Cape
Wifi - fast and reliable
I'll be honest in saying that I'm much more a new, sterile, soul-less hotel/Park Hyatt kind of girl myself, but the new Mrs. much prefers character, soul, and the outdoors so I knew she would love this and she did. Don't get me wrong: I like/liked it too and highly recommend Cottage Grove based on the character, cleanliness, beauty, location and service.
We stayed in Cottage 3 which is towards the back of the property. It is very sweet and just big enough inside, with a seating area, bedroom, full kitchen, and tiny bath.It gains points for privacy and for having an awesome outdoor shower in the back which is even more than awesome but practical after a sandy, salty day at the beach.
The Cottage Grove is easy to reach and close to many area resources, attractions and beaches.
After staying in the smallest studio cottage a number of years ago, I remembered Cottage Grove when my fiancée and I were planning a short Cape Cod escape "minimoon" honeymoon for after our wedding/elopement in Manhattan, so we booked Cottage 3 for 5 nights.
If it loses any points, it might be because it's nestled within the pines and as such doesn't get quite as much sun as some of the other cottages. (While every place on the Cape feels a little damp to me, it's not at all musty and in fact smells fresh and pine/cedar-like so that's not an issue.)
None, really. A little bit rustic is a con for me but probably a pro for most normal people! Tiny bathroom and cabin decor aren't things that thrill me, but can't be seen as cons when they're part of this type of lodging. Just know yourself and gauge what you prefer.
Cleanliness
Pros:
The Cottage Grove is a cozy, well- maintained get-away on Cape Cod.
We had a wonderful stay at Cottage Grove! Clean, quaint and stocked with everything you need for a comfortable trip. Jennifer was beyond helpful. Can't wait to return!
Cottage Grove is classic "old Cape" and by old Cape I mean good Cape.
Specific to Cottage 3:
You will be treated to a location that is not only a matter of minutes from two of the best beaches on the Cape (Nauset and Nauset Light, not to mention First Encounter on the Bay side...), but also rabbits hopping through this sweet little Pine enclave. So, very cool even if this geek girl did at times miss the white-box sterility of The Standard in NYC.
